METRORail runs for all Texans home games and serves the Stadium Park/Astrodome station next to the complex; check ridemetro.org for fares and pick-up points. The designated rideshare and taxi drop-off is Yellow Lot 35 at gate 16B off Main Street. The team advises fans without a parking pass to use rideshare or public transit.
Parking lots are color-coded and open four hours before kickoff (Platinum opens five hours before). Use the Main Street exit for the Green, Yellow and Purple lots, Kirby Drive for Blue and Red, and Fannin Street for Maroon and Orange. Anyone over age two needs a game ticket or a tailgate ticket to be on Reliant Park property during the season, and the lots are cleared within about 50 to 60 minutes after the game; there is no overnight parking.
Tailgating happens in the Reliant Park lots, and a game ticket or a separate tailgate ticket is required to be on property. Postgame tailgating is allowed for one hour after the final whistle, after which the lots close and every vehicle must leave. RVs and buses need at least two prepaid passes. Fans looking for a gameday party can head to the BULLevard on the stadium's southeast side near the Phillips 66 gate.
The roof is made of two fabric panels that part at the 50-yard line, so the venue plays like an indoor arena when closed and open-air when retracted, and shade is rarely a concern. The Bull Pen, a standing-and-singing bleacher section behind the north end zone, is the loudest fan spot. Champions Club is on the field level in the southeast corner behind Section 134.
The retractable roof can open or close in as little as seven minutes.
The Texans beat the Cowboys 19-10 in the first regular-season game here on September 8, 2002.
The building has hosted two Super Bowls, XXXVIII in 2004 and LI in 2017, the first Super Bowl to go to overtime.
